It’s In Every One Of Us – A Muppet Christmas Memory

One of my fondest and strongest childhood memories of Christmas involves not a man in a red suit, a Christmas tree and presents but a green frog, a determined pig and a country lad in glasses.

My favourite Christmas album was (and still is) John Denver and The Muppets: A Christmas Together. It’s how I learned the story of Silent Night, it’s why I can never sing the ‘figgy pudding’ verse of We Wish You A Merry Christmas without the urge to start yelling “Won’t go!!” and it’s why whenever I sing The Twelve Days of Christmas and get to Five Gold Rings, I have to stop myself from adding “Ba Dum Bom Bom”.

My favourite song, though, isΒ It’s In Every One Of Us. I’m not sure if I understood the words when I was ten, but it was lovely to sing. It’s still lovely to sing and now the words hold so much meaning in an adult life of searching for the right way.

It’s in every one of us
To be wise
Find your heart
Open up both your eyes
We can all know everything
Without ever knowing why
It’s in every one of us
By and by

It’s good to be reminded to look inside myself for the answers I seek.

Wishing you peace, joy, hope and love in the Christmas season.

  1. The muppets only came into our lives when our daughters were small, and I often missed much of their shows, as I was cooking or whatever mums do, while their kids are safe and happy. They became part of our childhood language and ways of explaining emotions when words failed. Lovely memory, thanks. Happy Muppet Christmas.

    • DING! DING! DING! You win the prize of a lifetime supply of chocolate coated raspberry jelly candy canes for being the first one to comment on Christmas Day! Congratulations!

I can’t believe you’ve never seen a Muppet Christmas. You must watch A Muppet Christmas Carol one day at the very least. And I love this whole album. Just been listening to it in the car on the way to and from my in-laws for Christmas Eve dinner. I am glad you will have muppety thoughts all day. What an excellent state of affairs. It beats obsessing about the eggnog.

      • “Obsessing over eggnog”? I think not. I don’t like it and I think the last time I actually bought any, my boys were very, very small.

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas. I have enough leftovers to feed us for a while … and that’s AFTER creating “goodie-bags” for the guys to take home with them.
All that food is a bit shameful. Strangely, I don’t feel bad about it though πŸ˜‰

  3. I’m just the right age to remember the Muppets from their TV show days, so I can truthfully claim to be a lifelong fan. I’ve watched some of their recent movies with my kids, though, and was shocked to find that whereas I have aged and grown, they look exactly the same. Far be it from me to start spreading unsubstantiated rumors, but I can’t help wondering if some kind of surgery may have been involved. Either that, or they’ve switched a couple of Muppets when nobody was looking.

    • We were watching the new tv series last night and they’re still funny. Although, I’m struggling with the full body views of Fozzie, etc and the ‘outside the theatre’ personal life elements. It feels weird. Because, obviously, like all movie/tv stars, I assumed they had no home life and lived at the theatre (or tv studio as the case may be now).

By the way, in light of your recent post, you may be interested to know that when I first posted this, I’d been blogging for 6 months and it garnered 14 views, 1 like and no comments.

      • I know our tastes can sometimes change as we get older, but when it comes to the Muppets, I feel much the same way about them as I always did. I simply find them funny, even Fozzie.

I’m glad that you recycled the post, by the way. I guess I should really try thinking of my own earlier posts as a kind of reserve library that I can dip into from time to time as the need arises. I can see them coming in very handy once in a while.
